Little Equinesse

A fictional short story series with dynamic characters, exquisite illustrations and insightful references to the sport of dressage. Coming Soon.

Birdee Layne is determined to show her new colt all of nature’s friends, especially the scarce White-Tailed Butterflorse, a creature she’s only seen once. But all that time crouched knee-deep in daylilies has kept her an ear’s length away from the town’s news. She never learned the story of the country’s revered Mother Nature who dropped thirty feet of snow on the Royal Castle, burying it for months. She also never learned the story of old Queen Dracchus who reacted by secretly calling the Army General.

But what she has learned is that her brother Stildrey practices relentlessly in the arena, waiting for someone to notice him. Then someone must have noticed him... because one day, mysteriously, both her brother, and her beloved colt, went missing.

Birdee’s life changes overnight when she runs down the bridle path to find some answers to her missing companions, and bumps into a twitchy cowboy named Bronco and his runaway dog, Harley. After many years of friendship, trust and training, Bronco drops her off near the Castle walls where she is called upon by Mother Nature to make a choice -- ride into the arena and down the centerline, go head-to-head against the Royal Cavalry’s top equestrian, and square up to face the formidable Queen... or turn away and miss the chance of spotting her colt and brother among the crowds. Or are they among the crowds?
